Middle Eastern Drumming Classes
with John Price

Mondays - starts July 19, 7pm - 8pm
and
Thursdays - start July 22 , 7pm - 8pm

Cost: $45 for 4 weeks or $15 for a single class.
(Cash or check payable to John Price)

Join Middle Eastern percussionist John Price for a special 4 week drumming class at Music Explorium!

Students of all levels will have a great time playing the doumbek, also known as Arabic tableh or darbouka.  We will mix drills, technique, rhythms and improvisation, and some good old-fashioned jamming so that everyone can progress.  This is a wonderful instrument that is played tucked under the arm "finger style" and is used in classical, folk, and pop Arabic music, as well as to accompany belly dancers.

John will teach classical Arabic technique, which allows dramatic sounds without undue exertion.

Students interested in riqq (tambourine) are welcome to bring theirs for riqq instruction or can use one of several loaners during the class.

Bring: A doumbek.  Loaners available with advance notice.  Riq (tambourine) players are also welcome.
Info: John will continue to teach all levels of Middle Eastern drummers from first-timers on up.  We will cover a variety of rhythms and drills and work on proper technique.  Continuing students will get a review of rhythms we've covered in previous sessions as well as new rhythms.  Drumming can help energize and focus you in this busy world we live in!

About John: John is a drummer specializing in Arabic tableh (doumbek) and riqq (tambourine).  He is a student of Grammy-nominated drummer Souhail Kaspar and has also studied with Issam Houshan, Karim Nagi, and Raquy Danziger.  He is a member of local group Lost Nomads and often performs with them at local belly dance events.

Email John at freecellwizard@gmail.com with any questions or to arrange pre-payment.

Come drum!

Private lessons are also available at 8pm Mondays after the main class (first come first serve).
