Found Sound Art Exhibit Opening

August 15th, Friday 6 – 9 pm

Sounds from Around Town
unleashing the music in found object

8 PM Found Sound Rhythm Jam, FREE!

Show opening at Durham’s Scrap Exchange’s Art Gallery, as part ofthe third Friday of the month, from 6 to 9pm, in conjunction with Downtown Durham’s Third Friday gallery walk events.
The exhibit is open August 15 – Sept 15, 2008

The artists are Cathy & Blaise Kielar
and that wild sound scientist, Peter Reintjes.

At this art exhibit, you can even touch and play the art! In fact you can drum, clang, scrape, jingle and shake the art. Explore your creation of rhythm fun with everyday objects found in your home remodel, kitchen, recycling bin or even your bedroom. Play creative rhythms on the Kielar’s acoustic instruments. Go wild with Peter Reintjes’ transducer/loudspeaker electronic sounds, ala David Tudor’s Rainforest IV style. Applying his electronic talents, Reintjes uses found objects as if they were loudspeakers, as each object attributes its own resonant frequency to the sound experience.

The Scrap Exchange, Durham’s creative reuse center, is located at 548 Foster St, at the corner of Foster and Corporation Streets.
